Han Dole Kim

I’m an adventurous guy who’s not afraid of taking risks. So far I have lived in: Seoul, South Korea; Glenview, IL; Bellevue, WA; Daytona Beach, FL; Charlottesville, VA; New Haven, CT; and Los Angeles, San Diego, La Jolla, Alameda, Union City, and San Francisco, CA. Through these moves, I have learned to quickly adapt to new environments and make friends with people from diverse backgrounds. I have gained a broad perspective on life, which helps me to be a better software engineer. Now I look forward to settle down in the best city of all -- Los Angeles, CA, where my family resides and my wife works.

I have taken a similar detour to find my true passion – CODING. I first thought I wanted to be a pilot and went to Embry Riddle Auronautical University, only to find out after one semester that I am yellow-green color blind and could not become a pilot. I made a bold decision to move to California from Florida and started my long journey to find my passion. A few years later, I was at UC San Diego studying Electrical Engineering. However, after taking “Programming Language C,” I immediately fell in love with coding and knew that was the path for me. I loved being challenged with logical problems and using my creative and analytical skills to solve them. I petitioned the school to change my major (super difficult process since CS was an impacted major).

Today, I’m proud to say that I have a B.S. degree in Computer Science from UC San Diego and that I call myself a Software Engineer. I have published an iOS app to the App Store, cloned the e-Commerce website Etsy using React, Redux, Ruby on Rails, and created an endless runner game using HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript. You can find links to these projects below. I truly love coding and look forward to surrounding myself with people who share a similar passion.

Outside of coding, I enjoy making beats 🎧 and playing video games 🎮, namely Fortnite, Overwatch, and PUBG. I’m always open to try new games so lmk if you have any recommendations! I also spend a lot of time at dog parks playing fetch with Bom (my 6-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel 🐶).
